Types of industrial robots for manufacturing

Automatic robots

  • Software robots – work on the basis of a cyclic program, which is entered into the memory block in advance. These are the simplest and cheapest representatives of automatic robotic devices.
  • Adaptive – thanks to the built-in system of sensors and sensors, they can switch the program taking into account changes in external conditions.
  • Trainees – the control program is adjusted depending on the course of the technological process. Then the robot functions with the changes made.
  • Intelligent – the latest generation of devices. They have elements of artificial intelligence, so they can analyze the environment themselves and act based on the information received.

Biotechnical robots

Manipulators or team robots. Operated remotely by the operator.
Copying. Repeat the actions of the operator.
Semi-automatic. The operator sets the movement of the main body, the work of the joints is coordinated and adjusted by the control system.

Interactive robots

Automated. The automatic mode of operation alternates with the work of the operator.
supervisory. The specified cycle is automatically performed, but the transition from one stage of work to another is carried out through the operator’s commands.
Dialogue. Working in automatic mode, at the same time they interact with the operator using a special language (for example, voice commands).

Types of industrial robots by purpose

Universal. Performing various types of operations.

Special. They work even in adverse conditions or have special functions.

Specialized. Such robots are designed to carry out any one type of activity: assembly, cutting, welding, painting, palletizing, etc. Let’s consider some of them.

  • Palletizing robots. They are used for loading and unloading operations and stacking products on pallets according to certain schemes. These are, for example, Fanuc robots of the M410 series (working with medium and heavy loads). This also includes KUKA KR QUANTEC PA Arctic – a palletizer that works even at minus 30 degrees.
  • Robots for welding. For example, the FANUC Arc Mate series machines can solder and perform all types of welding.
  • Painting robots. They are equipped with spray devices and successfully work with different types of paint and varnish coatings (FANUC Paint).

Robotic manipulators.

  • Traditional. These are a kind of robotic arms, powered by servos. Movements are limited by the size of the hand itself and the instrument that is attached to it. They turn and make complex movements along a variety of trajectories. These include air suction cups, grippers, paint sprayers, robots for 3D printing, welding.
  • Delta robots. They make fast and precise movements, therefore they are used for filling and assembly work in the pharmaceutical, electronic and food industries.
  • Robots like SCARA. Their feature: high accuracy and repeatability, along with a smaller area of ​​work and a degree of freedom. Accordingly, they are used in industries where accuracy is important, and not a large access zone (product assembly, etc.).

Robots for machine tools. Their main functions are removing parts from CNC machines, loading material, maintenance: changing tools, lubricating. Can serve multiple machines.

Collaborative robots (cobots). They work together with people, and are completely safe for them. Easily adjusted to different types of work, they can be quickly trained to perform new tasks. At the moment, they are considered the best industrial robots.
